The System Administrator (SA) is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/?configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Manage and configure all aspects of Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, DCHP, and Group Policies.
Install, upgrade and configure software systems that support primary office infrastructure and business applications including geospatial and database technologies.
- Contribute to and maintain system standards.
- Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
- Configure, design, and support virtual architecture.
- Perform daily system monitoring; verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs
- Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
- Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
- Create, change, and delete user accounts per request.
- Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
- Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
- Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Bachelor (4-year) degree, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science preferred.
- Microsoft Certification Strongly Preferred.
- Familiar with Esri GIS software is desirable.
- Experience with Windows Server OS, Active Directory, Microsoft Office, SharePoint, SQLServer, VMWare ESXI, Exchange Server.
- Two to Four years system administration experience.

Position Location: Missoula, MT
GCS Research seeks a programmer to support product development and professional service contracts related to location-based services and geographic information systems (GIS). This programming position is focused on development of distributed network services and integration with third-party systems. The position will work closely with senior programmers and project managers to develop, design, document, construct, integrate, test and support .NET solutions and services. Candidate will be involved with the specification of technical solutions from requirements gathering to proposal and assessment preparation. Working with others on the technical service team, the candidate will participate in all phases of the product development/project lifecycle. The successful candidate will have an advanced degree in computer science or related field, 1-3 years experience in server and/or network centric application development, and strong written communication and verbal presentation skills suitable for technical and non-technical audiences. The candidate must have applied experience with IIS and Oracle/SQL Server; proficiency in .NET programming; and experience with C++ and COM. Additional desired attributes include experience with third-party API integration, GIS, sensor technologies, UML, Geodatabase design, ArcObjects with ArcGIS (desktop, engine and server), ArcIMS, and ArcSDE. Flexibility is required with regard to responsibilities and duties. Some travel is required.
